Harriet Landseer has worked between heritage, museum travel and the arts for all of her career, and currently works a consultant bridging the tourism and heritage sectors, in both Ireland and the Czech Republic.
Based in Prague for many years, she established herself as a leading cultural tour operator and lecturing art historian on the architecture, art, gardens, libraries and decorative arts of the Czech Republic and Central Europe - researching, designing, arranging, accompanying and leading tours in Central Europe for museums and heritage associations for 25 years +
She works primarily with UK-based companies Specialtours www.specialtours.co.uk (now part of the Ultimate Travel Company) specialists in museum travel for over 50 years and Reality & Beyond www.realityandbeyond.co.uk (a niche travel company focused on Central & Eastern Europe) established in tandem with Lucy Abel Smith. In 2018 she co-created the brand Beyond Classic Travel https://beyondclassic.cz which now handles many of her well-honed itineraries.
Since an initial pioneering tour around Czech country houses in 1993 for the Irish Georgian Society (an ongoing client) she has worked with the Winterthur Museum, Decorative Arts Society (UK), Guggenheim Museums in Bilbao & New York, Europa Nostra, Art Fund (UK), Amis de Versailles, Metropolitan Museum, American Horticultural Society, Irish National Gallery, Royal Academy (UK), Boston Athenaeum, British Sporting Art Trust, Art History Abroad (UK), Quercus/National Trust, Handel & Haydn Society (USA), Smith Alumnae & the Decorative Arts Trust (USA) and is honoured to have led a FAM trip on behalf of Czech Tourism.
Harriet has also worked closely with those involved in promoting the unique architectural heritage of Bohemia and Moravia. She has translated specialist art-historical texts, and was commissioned by the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) to put their landmark book Castles, Country Houses and Other Monuments into English; it was originally published in January 2010, and then in a revised guidebook version. She supervised the first English version of the NPÚ website and the app Key to Heritage, and has worked on the content for many individual castle websites.
